Huta Julia Crystal Glassworks in Piechowice
Huta Julia is a working crystal glassworks at ul. Kryształowa 73 in Piechowice, where guided tours run daily from 9:30 to 16:00 and you can watch glass being made by hand. The interactive Krystalium centre, creative workshops and factory shops are open daily from 9:00 to 17:00.
What is Huta Julia?
It is a crystal glassworks whose history goes back to 1866, when Friedrich Wilhelm Heckert founded a glass decorating works here. After 1945 it took the name “Julia”, and today it is a Polish family-owned company. Glass is still made by hand using traditional methods — blowing, pressing and free forming — and each piece passes through about 25 pairs of hands.
What can you see and do?
- A guided tour of the glassworks — daily 9:30–16:00, with a demonstration of hand glassmaking.
- Krystalium — an interactive centre, open daily 9:00–17:00.
- Creative workshops: glass painting (age 4+), glass engraving (age 9+) and glass mosaic.
- The “Afternoon with Huta Julia 3 in 1” package combining a workshop, the glassworks tour and Krystalium.
- Factory shops selling the glassworks’ products, open daily 9:00–17:00.
Who is it for?
- Families with children — children under 3 go free, children under 15 get a reduced ticket, and there is a family workshop package for one child with one adult.
- Adults interested in traditional crafts and regional history.
Is it a good idea on a rainy day?
Yes — the tour, Krystalium and workshops all take place indoors. There is parking, a café and relaxation areas on site, and pets are welcome.
