Karpacz with a pram — where it works and where a baby carrier is better

Is Karpacz pram-friendly?

Honestly: only partly. Karpacz lies on a mountain slope and the height difference within the town reaches several hundred metres — from the centre to Upper Karpacz it is uphill all the way, and many streets and paths are steep. That is true of any mountain resort, so with a little one it is best to plan short stretches with the pram and longer outings with a baby carrier.

How do you get to the Nad Łomniczką hut with a pram?

From near the Orlinek ski jump (ul. Olimpijska), the red trail follows a gravel forest road, renovated by Karkonosze National Park, to the Nad Łomniczką hut — the easiest pram walk towards the mountains. The stretch is about 3.3 km and usually takes 1–1.5 hours uphill.

• The hut reopened after renovation on 27 March 2026. It serves food but has no overnight accommodation (as of March 2026).
• The route runs through Karkonosze National Park, so adults need a park ticket: 11 PLN, reduced 5.50 PLN (as of September 2026). Children under 7 go free.
• Parking at Orlinek is paid.
• Above the hut, towards the Łomniczka Waterfall, the trail becomes steep and rocky — no pram will get through there.

Can you reach the Łomnica dam with a pram?

Yes — the easiest way to the Łomnica dam in the centre of Karpacz is through the park, which is more accessible than the other approaches. Don’t plan to go further with the pram: the Karpatka loop from the dam is a narrow path, steep in places. In 2026 the neighbouring promenade is also being rebuilt (completion planned for December), so the approach from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja can be awkward.

Is the route from the Wang Temple to Samotnia suitable for a pram?

Not really. The blue trail from the Wang Temple to the Samotnia mountain hut (about 4 km, about 1.5 hours) mostly follows a wide cobbled road, which is why it sometimes appears on lists of pram routes — but it is very uneven in places, and other accounts describe it as a tough experience. A baby carrier is a far better choice here. Even the approach to the Wang Temple is steep and cobbled, although the area around the church itself is flat and comfortable.

Where can you take a quiet forest walk with a pram?

Droga Chomontowa starts at Młynek Miłości (ul. Karkonoska 53) and follows a forest road towards Borowice and the Droga Sudecka. It is listed among pram-friendly walks in Karpacz. We don’t have verified data on its length or surface along the whole way, so treat it as an out-and-back walk and turn round when it gets too rough.

A baby carrier instead of a pram — where can you hire one?

For trails and steep streets, take a baby carrier. Carrying a child is tiring too, but in a mountain town it is still much easier than pushing a pram uphill. No carrier in your luggage? You can hire one in Karpacz — several places in town rent out hiking baby carriers and child carrier backpacks. Ask at your hotel or at the tourist information office.

What can you do with a pram when it rains?

• Municipal Toy Museum in the former station building (ul. Kolejowa 3) — according to the museum, the building is accessible for prams. Open Tuesday–Friday 9:00–16:30, Saturday–Sunday 10:00–17:30, closed on Mondays.
• Brick Museum — our museum in the centre (entrance from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja). The exhibition is spread over several levels and is not suitable for prams, so bring a baby carrier. Children up to 90 cm tall go free.
• Water park at Hotel Gołębiewski — a large pool area open to non-residents; children under 4 go free (price list, September 2026).

A day plan with a pram in Karpacz

1. Morning: from the Orlinek ski jump along the gravel road to the Nad Łomniczką hut (1–1.5 hours uphill), lunch at the hut and back the same way.
2. Afternoon: head to the centre and walk through the park to the Łomnica dam.
3. When your child has had enough fresh air, or it starts to rain: the Municipal Toy Museum or — with a carrier — the Brick Museum.

In summer, families with toddlers can also visit Park Bajek (Fairy Tale Park) in Wilcza Poręba — a walk among fairy-tale figures with no steep climbs.
