How do you get to Karpacz by train?

Trains run to Karpacz from Jelenia Góra — the Koleje Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesian Railways) service was restored on 14 June 2025. From other cities, travel to Jelenia Góra first and change there to a train or bus to Karpacz.

• Trains arrive at Karpacz station on ul. Kolejowa. The former station building (ul. Kolejowa 3) houses the Municipal Toy Museum — a good first stop.
• Timetables change with the seasons, so check them before you travel on the Koleje Dolnośląskie (opens in a new tab) website or a journey planner. We deliberately don’t copy departure times here.

Are there buses to Karpacz?

Yes. Regional buses run from Jelenia Góra to Karpacz, and in season there are tourist buses too. Timetables and stops change seasonally — check a journey planner or ask where you are staying.

Long-distance coach connections straight to Karpacz also vary through the year. The most reliable plan is to get to Jelenia Góra and continue by train or bus.

How do you get around Karpacz without a car?

• On foot. The centre of Karpacz is walkable, but the town lies on a mountainside: from the centre to Upper Karpacz (Wang Temple, the Kopa chairlift, Dziki Wodospad) it is uphill all the way.
• By taxi. Phone numbers and tips are on our Taxi in Karpacz page. Book longer rides and trips in advance.
• By Bolt. Bolt operates in Karpacz in 2026. In high season and bad weather you may have to wait for a car.
• By tourist road train. A small tourist train on wheels runs around town with stops along the way — handy for families with children and older visitors.

In 2026 the main promenade (ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja, between ul. Kościelna and ul. Nad Łomnicą) is being rebuilt, with completion planned for December. You can still walk through and shops and restaurants are open, but getting across the centre can take longer.

Where can you walk from the centre and the station?

A Karkonosze National Park ticket costs 11 PLN, reduced 5.50 PLN (as of September 2026); children under 7 go free. You can buy it online at kpn.eparki.pl, and from 30 April to 30 September (9:00–15:00) also at a mobile ticket point in Sowia Dolina. On the route to Sowia Przełęcz the steepest part comes just before the pass.

Can you climb Mount Śnieżka without a car?

Yes. The simplest option is a taxi or Bolt up to Upper Karpacz:

• to the Wang Temple — from here the blue trail via Samotnia reaches the summit in about 3.5 hours,
• to the lower station of the Kopa chairlift — from the top station it is about 2.3 km, roughly 1 hour on foot, to the summit.

From the railway station you can also set off straight away on the yellow trail to the Nad Łomniczką hut (about 2 hours). The red trail beyond it through the Łomniczka cirque is steep and closed in winter.

A car-free day plan for Karpacz

1. Arrive by train. Start at the Municipal Toy Museum in the former station building: Tuesday–Friday 9:00–16:30, Saturday–Sunday 10:00–17:30, closed on Mondays.
2. Walk to the centre. Our Brick Museum and the Video Game Museum share one building (entrance from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja), open daily 10:00–18:00. Both museums take about 1.5 hours, and the “Two Museums” ticket can be used on different days. Karkonoskie Tajemnice is right next door.
3. After lunch. Through the park to the Łomnica dam and around the Karpatka loop (30–40 minutes).
4. End of the day. Krucze Skały (about 15–20 minutes from the centre) or, if your legs have had enough, a taxi or Bolt back to the station.

Mountain option: from the station along the yellow trail to the Nad Łomniczką hut (about 2 hours, park ticket needed), lunch at the hut, then down the red trail on the gravel road to the Orlinek ski jump area, and about 10 minutes on foot to the centre.
