Karpacz with kids: attractions and a day plan

We live in Karpacz and have run the Brick Museum since 2015, so we meet families with children every single day. Here are ideas by age, easy walks and the practical tips parents ask us about most often.

What to do in Karpacz with a toddler (0–3 years)?

• Park Bajek (Fairy Tale Park) in Wilcza Poręba (ul. Wilcza 2) — fairy-tale houses with narrated stories, a playground, trampolines and summer tubing. A good first attraction for one- and two-year-olds: the paths are not steep, so a pushchair is fine here. Entry is paid, and the park may close in rain, storms or snow — check the park’s website before you go.
• Municipal Toy Museum (ul. Kolejowa 3) — toys from different eras and countries in the former railway station, accessible with a pushchair. Closed on Mondays.
• Brick Museum — children up to 90 cm tall enter free. Little ones love the movement and lights: press a button and trains start and firefighters put out a fire. The exhibition is on several levels, so bring a baby carrier.
• Łomnica Dam in the centre — the easiest way to get there with a pushchair is through the park. The loop further up to Karpatka hill is a narrow path that is not suitable for pushchairs.

Which attractions in Karpacz suit children aged 4–10?

• Brick Museum and Video Game Museum — there are buttons and joysticks under the models, and “find the minifigure” challenges and a building zone keep children at the exhibits for longer. One floor up you can play together on consoles the parents grew up with.
• Karkonoskie Tajemnice — an underground exhibition about the Spirit of the Mountains and local legends, right next to the Brick Museum.
• Kolorowa toboggan run (ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja 51a) — a summer toboggan track (seasonal) and a year-round Alpine Coaster. Children can ride from age 3, but under 8 only with an adult; riding the Alpine Coaster alone is allowed from age 8 and 135 cm. Open 10:00–19:00.
• Świat Kolejek (ul. Karkonoska 32) — model railways with stations where children control trains and cranes themselves.
• Multimedia Museum of the Karkonosze (ul. Karkonoska 5) — interactive rooms about the history of the mountains, from dinosaurs to the Ice Age.
• Dziki Wodospad (Wild Waterfall) in Upper Karpacz — a cascade about 150 m from the car park on ul. Olimpijska. Nearby on ul. Strażacka is the “gravity anomaly”, an optical illusion where a bottle seems to roll uphill. It is an ordinary road with traffic, so keep children close.
• Krucze Skały (Raven Rocks) — about a 5-minute walk from a forest car park, with a shelter and benches for a picnic.

What to do in Karpacz with teenagers?

• Mount Śnieżka (1,603 m) — a fit teenager can walk up: from Wang Temple via Samotnia and Dom Śląski it is about 9 km and about 3.5 hours one way.
• Samotnia hut by Mały Staw lake — about 1.5 hours (about 4 km) from Wang Temple on the blue trail; a good half-day goal.
• Alpine Coaster at Kolorowa — solo rides from age 8 and 135 cm.
• Orlinek ski jump viewing tower (ul. Olimpijska 9) — a viewpoint on the ski jump’s start tower; entry is paid and it may close in bad weather.
• Video Game Museum — a chance to show teenagers what their parents used to play and challenge them to a retro game.

Where to go for an easy walk with kids in Karpacz?

From Orlinek to the Nad Łomniczką mountain hut — our first choice for a family walk towards the mountains. The red trail starts by the Orlinek ski jump (ul. Olimpijska 9) and follows a gravel forest road: about 3.3 km and 1–1.5 hours one way. The hut reopened on 27 March 2026 after renovation — it serves food but offers no accommodation. Above the hut the trail to Łomniczka Waterfall becomes steep and rocky, so with small children turn back at the hut.

• The trail is in Karkonosze National Park: adults need an entry ticket, children under 7 enter free.
• There is a paid car park by the Orlinek ski jump.

Other short outings: Dziki Wodospad (about 150 m from the car park), Krucze Skały (about 5 minutes from the forest car park) and Łomnica Dam in the centre. For children who enjoy walking: from Wang Temple to Samotnia there is a wide track, mostly cobbled — about 4 km and about 1.5 hours.

How to ride up Kopa with kids and what to do there?

The Kopa chairlift starts in Upper Karpacz on ul. Olimpijska, and the ride takes a few minutes. Children under 2 ride free, and there is a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children. From 1 September 2026 the lift runs Sunday–Thursday 9:00–16:30 and Friday–Saturday 9:00–17:30.

• From the top station, the black trail leads to the Dom Śląski hut below Śnieżka. The terrain is exposed and often very windy, so bring a warm layer and a jacket, even in summer.
• The whole route from Kopa to the summit of Śnieżka is about 2.3 km and about 1 hour on foot; the final climb from Dom Śląski is steep. With children, buy a return ticket so you do not have to walk all the way down to Karpacz.
• The trails above Karpacz are in the national park — check the park’s announcements and the weather before you set off.

Pushchair or baby carrier in Karpacz?

A baby carrier. Karpacz sits on a steep slope, like most mountain towns, and outside the centre a pushchair is very hard work. Many attractions are uphill too, for example the steep cobbled lane up to Wang Temple. Carrying a child is tiring, but far easier than pushing a pushchair up steep streets.

• No carrier in your luggage? You can hire one in Karpacz — several places in town rent hiking baby carriers and child carrier backpacks. Ask at your hotel or at the tourist information office.
• A pushchair works well in Park Bajek, in the Municipal Toy Museum and on the path to the dam through the park.
• In 2026 the main promenade (ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja) is being rebuilt, planned until December. You can walk through and shops and restaurants are open, but it is harder going with a pushchair.

Which kids’ attractions are near Karpacz?

• Park of Miniature Monuments of Lower Silesia in Kowary — 1:25 models of historic buildings, a guided tour with an animator included in the ticket, open daily 9:00–17:00. Children under 1 m tall enter free.
• Papugarnia Śnieżka parrot house in Miłków — rooms with free-flying parrots; no pushchairs or jewellery inside.
• Podgórze Mine in Kowary — an underground route with no age limit, pushchairs allowed; it is about 8°C underground.
• Western City in Ściegny — a Wild West town with shows and a mini zoo; best to confirm opening hours by phone.
• ZOObaczysko Bird Park in Sosnówka — a garden with parrots, owls and birds of prey, a playground and a maze.
• Tajemniczy Las (Mysterious Forest) in Bukowiec — an interactive nature exhibition, open Tuesday to Sunday.
• Gigantei in Piechowice — a park with giant insect models; open at weekends in September and October 2026.
