What to do in Karpacz when it rains

Rain in Karpacz does not have to mean a day in your room. There are several indoor museums in the centre and along Karkonoska street, and two hotels let day visitors use their pools. We live here and run the Brick Museum in central Karpacz, so here is our honest first tip: on a rainy day every indoor attraction is much busier than usual.

Is Karpacz crowded on a rainy day?

Yes. When it rains, people who planned a mountain hike look for something to do indoors — museums, pools and restaurants fill up, and car parks in the centre are full early.

• Arrive right at opening time — most museums in Karpacz open at 10:00, and that is the quietest moment.
• Have lunch earlier than usual or book a table.
• Buy tickets online where possible — Karkonoskie Tajemnice, for example, sells cheaper tickets online.
• Plan two or three attractions rather than five. On a rainy day queues at ticket desks take longer than you expect.

Which indoor attractions are in the centre of Karpacz?

• Brick Museum (Muzeum Klocków) — ul. Mickiewicza 11, entrance from Konstytucji 3 Maja street. This is our museum of interactive LEGO brick models: press a button and the SpaceX rocket launches, trains start and firefighters put out a fire. Open daily 10:00–18:00 (except 1 November); a visit takes 40–60 minutes on average.
• Video Game Museum — in the same building, on the top floor, with consoles you can actually play, from the Pegasus to 1990s classics. Both museums together take about 1.5 hours, and the “Two Museums” ticket can be used on two different days.
• Karkonoskie Tajemnice (Mysteries of Karkonosze) — ul. Mickiewicza 1a, next door. An underground multimedia exhibition about the Spirit of the Mountains and local legends, open daily 10:00–18:00 (except 1 November).
• Municipal Toy Museum (Miejskie Muzeum Zabawek) — ul. Kolejowa 3, in the former railway station. More than 2,000 toys from different eras and countries plus a railway heritage room; the building is accessible with a pushchair. Open Tue–Fri 9:00–16:30, Sat–Sun 10:00–17:30, closed on Mondays.

Watch out for similar names: the Municipal Toy Museum in Karpacz is run by the town. Our Toy Exhibition — Pop Culture Icons in Szklarska Poręba (ul. Jedności Narodowej 16) is a completely different place in another town.

What else is indoors along Karkonoska street?

• Multimedia Museum of the Karkonosze (Multimedialne Muzeum Karkonoszy) — ul. Karkonoska 5. Interactive rooms about the history of the mountains, from their formation through dinosaurs and the Ice Age to modern times. Open daily 10:00–18:00.
• Świat Kolejek (World of Railways) — ul. Karkonoska 32, in Upper Karpacz. Model railways with running trains, stations where you control trains and cranes, multimedia games and a VR room. Open daily 10:00–18:00.
• Wang Temple — ul. Na Śnieżkę 8. The wooden church itself is visited indoors, but the approach is a steep cobbled lane. On Sundays and most holidays there is a service at 10:00 and sightseeing starts at 11:30.

Where can you swim in Karpacz when it rains?

Karpacz has no thermal baths and no classic water park, but two hotels open their pool areas to day visitors.

1. Tropikana Water Park at Hotel Gołębiewski (ul. Karkonoska 14) — our first choice for a rainy afternoon. The pool area is very large, so even when it is busy you can still use it comfortably. There are indoor and outdoor pools, slides and jacuzzis. Day visitors are admitted Mon–Fri 11:00–21:00 and Sat–Sun 9:00–21:00. Children under 14 must be constantly supervised by an adult, and entry after 16:00 costs more.
2. Aquapark Sandra Spa (ul. Obrońców Pokoju 3) — a 25 m pool, wave pool, lazy river, slides, paddling pool, jacuzzi and saunas. Open daily 9:00–21:00, but the last entry for day visitors is at 18:00.
3. Termy Cieplickie thermal baths in Jelenia Góra-Cieplice (ul. Park Zdrojowy 5) — about 25–30 minutes by car from Karpacz, open daily 8:00–22:00. It can get crowded.

With a toddler, swap the afternoon museum for the Municipal Toy Museum (until 16:30 on weekdays, closed on Mondays). The Brick Museum spreads over several levels and is not suitable for pushchairs — a baby carrier works better. For more family ideas see our guide Karpacz with kids.

Main street works in 2026: ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja, the pedestrian promenade, is being rebuilt (planned until December 2026). You can still walk through and shops and restaurants are open, but crossing the centre takes longer — allow extra time with an umbrella and children.

Raining all weekend? Indoor ideas nearby

• Podgórze Mine in Kowary — a tourist route through a former uranium mine, about 1,600 m and about 1 h 20 min. It is around 8°C underground, so bring warm clothes.
• Papugarnia Śnieżka parrot house in Miłków, about 5–6 km from central Karpacz — rooms with free-flying parrots. Pushchairs are not allowed inside.
• Julia Glassworks in Piechowice — tours of a working crystal glassworks and workshops.
• Our Toy Exhibition in Szklarska Poręba — Hot Wheels cars, dolls, soft toys and bricks, open daily 10:00–18:00.

Is it worth hiking in the rain?

It is better to move a mountain hike to a dry day. The stony trails of Karkonosze National Park get slippery after rain, and the views from the ridge often disappear into cloud.
