Karpacz weekend itinerary: plans for 1, 2 and 3 days

The easiest way to plan a weekend in Karpacz is around the weather: give the best day to Mount Śnieżka and the other to the centre and Upper Karpacz. We live here and run the Brick Museum in central Karpacz. These plans are what we would suggest to friends, with walking times from hiking guides and time to spare for breaks.

How should you plan a weekend in Karpacz?

• 1 day: the centre and Upper Karpacz. In good weather you can also ride up Kopa in the morning, walk to Mount Śnieżka and visit a museum in the centre in the afternoon.
• 2 days: one day in the mountains (Mount Śnieżka) and one in town. Pick the day with the better forecast for the summit.
• 3 days: add a trip to Kowary (Podgórze Mine, Miniature Park) or Miłków (Chata na Głowie, Papugarnia Śnieżka).

How do you climb Mount Śnieżka from Karpacz in a day?

There are two practical options from Karpacz. You can walk from Wang Temple via Samotnia (about 9 km, about 3.5 hours one way). The quicker option is the chairlift up Kopa, which leaves about 1 hour of walking to the summit (about 2.3 km). Times are approximate, without long breaks, and vary between sources by 10–30 minutes or so.

Option A: on foot from Wang Temple via Samotnia

If you descend to Kopa, remember that the bottom station is on Olimpijska street, not at Wang, so plan how to get back to your car (Bolt, for example, operates in Karpacz). From 1 September 2026 the chairlift runs until 16:30 Sunday to Thursday and until 17:30 on Fridays and Saturdays. The last ride down is at closing time.

Option B: chairlift up Kopa and about 1 hour on foot. The “Zbyszek” chairlift starts at 9:00 and takes about 8 minutes to reach Kopa. From the top station you follow the black trail to Dom Śląski, then the red trail to the summit. Even with a break at the top and the same way back, you are done by lunchtime. According to the operator, an uphill or return ticket includes the national park entry fee (a downhill-only ticket does not). Prices are on the Kopa chairlift prices page. There is a municipal car park on Olimpijska street by the bottom station: 8 PLN per hour or 40 PLN per day (2026 rates).

What to take up Mount Śnieżka: hiking boots with a good grip, water and food, a rain jacket and a warm layer (it is colder and very windy at the top), a charged phone and your national park ticket. With a small child, choose the Kopa option and bring a baby carrier rather than a pushchair.

How can you see the centre and Upper Karpacz in one day?

14:30	Karkonoskie Tajemnice, ul. Mickiewicza 1a	An underground exhibition about the Spirit of the Mountains. Online tickets are cheaper than at the desk.
16:00	Łomnica dam	About 700 m from Karkonoskie Tajemnice, free to visit. You can add the loop up Karpatka hill (about 1.6 km, 30–40 minutes, not for pushchairs).

Wang Temple and Dziki Wodospad are in Upper Karpacz, while the museums and the dam are in the centre. Walking from the centre to Dziki Wodospad takes about 40 minutes, uphill all the way, or a few minutes by car. The Brick Museum (address ul. Mickiewicza 11, entrance from Konstytucji 3 Maja street) and Karkonoskie Tajemnice are open daily 10:00–18:00, except 1 November. The Brick Museum spreads over several levels, so a baby carrier is easier than a pushchair.

Karpacz in one day: how do you combine Mount Śnieżka and the centre?

In good weather, one day is enough for Mount Śnieżka via Kopa and an afternoon in the centre. This plan uses the chairlift, because the walk from Wang takes most of the day.

What if it rains at the weekend?

Swap the days. If it rains on Saturday and Sunday looks better, stay in town on Saturday and climb Mount Śnieżka on Sunday. The stony national park trails are slippery after rain, and the views from the ridge often disappear into cloud.

• Indoors in the centre there are the Brick Museum with the Video Game Museum and Karkonoskie Tajemnice. On Karkonoska street you will find the Multimedia Museum of the Karkonosze and Świat Kolejek (daily 10:00–18:00).
• In the afternoon you can swim: the water park at Hotel Gołębiewski admits day visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 21:00.
• In Kowary, the Podgórze Mine runs an underground route where the weather does not matter.

What can you see near Karpacz on a third day?

Kowary

• Lower Silesian Monuments Miniature Park (ul. Zamkowa 9), about 15 minutes by car from central Karpacz. Palaces, churches and town houses at a 1:25 scale, with a guided walk included in the ticket. Open all year, daily 9:00–17:00.
• Podgórze Mine, about 25 minutes by car. The route through a former uranium mine is about 1,600 m long and takes about 1 h 20 min, and it is about 8°C underground. Open daily 10:30–16:30 (according to the mine’s notice). There are free car parks along ul. Podgórze.

The two are easy to combine: the Miniature Park in the morning, the mine next, then back to Karpacz after lunch.

Miłków

• Papugarnia Śnieżka parrot house (ul. Karpacka 3), a few minutes’ drive from central Karpacz. Parrots fly freely around the room, and one visit lasts up to 45 minutes. Open 10:00–17:00 at weekends and 11:00–17:00 on weekdays. Pushchairs are not allowed inside.
• Chata na Głowie (Miłków 71), a furnished upside-down house, with the gravity cabin and Gryzoolandia next to it. Opening hours change with the season, so call before you go (contact).

How do the 2026 main street works affect a weekend in Karpacz?

Since 26 February 2026, the pedestrian promenade on ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja has been rebuilt between ul. Kościelna and ul. Nad Łomnicą. The works are planned to finish in December 2026. Shops and restaurants are open, but walking through the centre takes longer, and reaching the Łomnica dam from the promenade side can be awkward. Allow some extra time, especially with children.

Where can you park in Karpacz at the weekend?

• Municipal car parks cost 8 PLN per hour or 40 PLN for the whole day, until midnight (2026 rates).
• At four car parks the first 30 minutes are free: no. 1 on ul. Parkowa (lower part), no. 3 on ul. Łączna, no. 12 by the Town Hall and no. 13 on ul. Kolejowa.
• By the Kopa chairlift and Dziki Wodospad there is a municipal car park on Olimpijska street.
• In season and at weekends, spaces in Upper Karpacz fill up quickly, so arrive early.
